Action Research Design Outline

In this action research study, I investigate how a blended learning model—combining in-person lab instruction with online and self-paced components—can improve student engagement and academic performance in the Anatomy and Physiology I (API) lab. The research focuses on students who score 74 or below on practical exams, aiming to support their success through personalized learning. Using a mixed-methods approach, the study collects both quantitative and qualitative data to assess the model’s impact and inform future instructional strategies.
Literature Review
This literature review looks at how blended learning, personalized instruction, and student engagement strategies can support success in higher education, especially in lab-based courses. It helped shape the direction of my action research by highlighting how flexible, tech-supported learning models can better meet the needs of students who struggle in traditional settings. The research I reviewed guided the design of my innovation and reinforced the importance of adapting instruction to support all learners.
Action Research Plan

Image provided by Wix
This action research plan focuses on improving outcomes for students in the Anatomy and Physiology I lab by introducing a blended learning model with individualized rotation. The plan targets students who score 74 or below on their practical exams and explores how combining in-person labs with online and self-paced learning can boost engagement and performance. It outlines the research questions, methods, timeline, and data collection strategies that will guide the study and help evaluate the effectiveness of this approach.
Contributions to Learning

This reflection is my opportunity to honestly assess how I’ve contributed to my own learning and to the learning community in this course. It’s based on the idea that being a strong, self-directed learner means knowing how to evaluate your own progress. In this post, I’ve chosen a score using the self-assessment guide and explained why I think it fits. I talk about what I’ve done well, what I can keep working on, and how I’ve supported my peers. I’ve also included links to my work and listed the classmates I’ve regularly collaborated with.
